Are Discount GPS Systems Any Good?

Discount GPS systems have gone down in price considerably.  Like much of new technology, it has dropped in price in recent years dramatically.  This year, these systems that can both track a vehicle or person and can also act as a navigation system are cheaper than ever.  Some are even cheaper than others.

You do not have to have a lot of money to purchase one of these systems.  They will not have all of the bells and whistles as an expensive system, but they can adequately do the job for you.  They can not only get you to where you want to go, but will also be able to provide tracking.

Chances are, when purchasing discount GPS systems, that you will have to install your own software.  This can either be downloaded from the company site or may even come with the system.  It will most likely be downloaded by computer.  In other words, you will hook the compute up to the system and upload information such as mapping software, into the system.  This way, the system will be able to give your directions.

These discount systems will still send out signals and  receive them.  The tracking may not be as pinpoint as other more expensive systems.  There can also be a time lapse with a cheaper system.  When you are purchasing GPS systems, you should look for those that operate in real time, instead of a strong time lapse.  The longer the time lapse, the less chance you have of locating your vehicle if it gets stolen.  Real time is important if you want to be able to accurately track your car.

Real time is also important if you are seeking to avoid traffic jams and accidents on the road.  These systems normally come with wireless capabilities that allow the latest traffic news and updates on roads.  Discount GPS systems, however, may not have this feature.  They will also not have voice control or the ability to have audio.

Some of the other bells and whistles that will be absent from your inexpensive GPS system will be the ability to play videos and music.  Some of the more expensive systems can pretty much double as MP3 players and operate on flash technology that allows the screen to look like a video.  You will get a much less fancier screen with a cheaper model.

However, the name of the game with these systems is the ability to track as well as get to your proposed destination.  In this respect, all GPS systems are created equal.  They will be able to track your vehicle and give you directions as to where you want to go.  They might not be as fancy as the higher priced models and contain all of the extras, but discount GPS systems do the job that you want them to do.
